This past weekend, AMEF Cameroon proudly partnered with other organizations as a sponsor of the SAMINUPSS Sports Carnival at the Omnisport Stadium in Limbe. While the event celebrated athleticism and community spirit, our presence represented something equally vital: education, awareness, and advocacy for menstrual health.
More Than a Sporting Event
Sports bring people together, but they also create unique opportunities to address critical health and social issues. For AMEF Cameroon, the carnival was a platform to engage young people, particularly adolescent girls in meaningful conversations about menstrual health, a topic that remains stigmatized yet profoundly impacts education, wellbeing, and dignity.
Empowering Through Education
Our team distributed educational materials designed to demystify menstruation and equip young people with practical knowledge. These resources covered essential topics including:
How to manage periods effectively and hygienically
Understanding and calculating the menstrual cycle
Breaking down myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation.
In addition to educational outreach, AMEF Cameroon provided sanitary pads to all young girls of menstruating age in attendance, ensuring that access to menstrual hygiene products is not a barrier to participation, comfort, or confidence.
Why This Work Matters
Menstrual health is not a peripheral issue, it is a matter of public health, education access, and fundamental human rights. When girls lack access to menstrual products or accurate information, they often miss school, withdraw from social activities, and face unnecessary shame. By normalizing these conversations and providing tangible support, we help dismantle the stigma that prevents too many girls from reaching their full potential.
Our Commitment Continues
AMEF Cameroon remains steadfast in our mission to educate, empower, and restore dignity for girls and women across the country. Events like the SAMINUPSS Sports Carnival remind us that advocacy can and should happen everywhere: on the field, in schools, in communities, and in everyday conversations.
We are grateful to our partners and to every individual who believes that menstrual health deserves attention, resources, and respect.
Join us in this movement. Because every girl deserves dignity, access, and informed choices.
