Position Details

Job Title: Assistant Education Officer (Sector Officer)
Department: Programmes
Reports Directly To: Education Officer
Works Closely With: MEAL Officer, Field Officers, Project Assistant
Duty Station: Project communities and schools with frequent field travel (Manyu, Meme,
Bangem, Lebialem)
Supervises: Field Officers, Education Facilitators, Community Volunteers, Temporary
Teachers (during activities)
Contract Type: Full-time
Grade Level: Programmes – Technical/Sector Level

1. Position Summary
The Assistant Education Officer assist in technical leadership and field supervision for all AMEF
education interventions including first-line emergency education response, non-formal/catch
up education, psychosocial support (PSS), teacher training, school support, NFI and
cash/voucher education assistance, and strengthening of community and school structures.
The AEO ensures that education activities are implemented in safe, protective, inclusive, and
gender-sensitive learning environments and are capable of delivering the required indicators
related to learning outcomes, retention, psychosocial wellbeing, teacher capacity, and use
of education support as intended.

2. Key Duties and Responsibilities
2.1 Education Activity Planning and Technical Design
The AE Officer shall:
• Translate project logframe indicators into practical school and community
implementation plans.
• Develop schedules for teacher trainings, PSS sessions, catch-up classes, outreach
campaigns, and remedial classes.
• Plan education NFI kits and cash/voucher support to schools and households.

2.2 Teacher Training and Capacity Building
The AE Officer shall:
• Organize and facilitate training of teachers on:
o Psychosocial support and child protection
o Catch-up/bridging class methodologies
o Use of education kits and teaching materials
• Conduct pre/post tests and ensure teachers can replicate learned skills in classrooms.
2.3 Psychosocial Support (PSS) and Recreational Activities
The AE Officer shall:
• Organize recreational and PSS activities for children and youth.
• Ensure learners show improved psychosocial wellbeing.
• Support safe spaces and child-friendly learning environments.
2.4 Non-Formal Education and Catch-Up Classes
The AE Officer shall:
• Supervise enrolment of out-of-school children into catch-up/bridging classes.
• Monitor attendance, completion, and transition of learners into formal schools.
• Support learners to pass placement or national assessment tests.
2.5 Support to Formal Schools
The AE Officer shall:
• Support schools with education kits and learning materials.
• Ensure teachers and learners use provided kits as intended.
• Provide technical guidance to school authorities and community education structures.
2.6 Education Outreach and Community Engagement
The AE Officer shall:
• Lead education outreach campaigns to promote school enrolment and retention.
• Work with PTAs, school management committees, and community leaders.
• Support community representation structures related to education.
2.7 Cash/Voucher and NFI Education Support
The AE Officer shall:
• Supervise distribution of education NFI kits to learners and institutions.
• Supervise cash/voucher support to households and schools.
• Ensure documentation allows verification that support is used as intended.
2.8 Monitoring Learning Outcomes and Retention
The AE Officer shall:
• Track enrolment, attendance, completion, and transition of learners.
• Monitor improved learning outcomes among supported children.
• Work closely with MEAL Officer on baseline, endline, and assessments.
2.9 Documentation and Reporting
The AE Officer shall:
• Maintain training reports, attendance sheets, beneficiary lists, and activity files.
• Provide photos, evidence, and success stories from schools and activities.
• Support preparation of donor narrative reports.
2.10 Protection, Gender and Inclusion
The AE Officer shall:
• Ensure inclusive education for girls, boys, and children with disabilities.
• Ensure safe, protective, and gender-sensitive learning spaces.
• Apply safeguarding and “Do No Harm” principles in all activities.

3. Required Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Sciences, Psychology, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in education programming in humanitarian or
development contexts.
• Experience in teacher training, PSS, and non-formal education.
• Experience with NFI and cash/voucher education support.
• Strong facilitation and community engagement skills.

5. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Performance shall be assessed based on ability to achieve indicators such as:
• teachers trained and applying learned methods
• learners enrolled, completing, and transitioning to formal school
• % learners with improved psychosocial wellbeing
• % children experiencing use of provided learning materials
• Evidence of improved learning outcomes and retention
• Proper documentation of NFI and cash/voucher education support

6. Code of Conduct and Accountability
Bound by AMEF policies, safeguarding, conflict sensitivity, gender policy, and donor education
standards.

7. Declaration
